Cheese with PDO
The oldest and most-consumed cheese in Galicia, it was typically homemade in all rural households.
HISTORY

Before getting its PDO in 2009, this cheese was popularly known in Galician as “Queixo do País”, because it was generally produced and consumed in peasant homes. Although it was originally made throughout Galicia, at present the PDO restricts the production area to its central part, in the valley of the Ulla River and its tributaries.

 
TASTING NOTES

Very buttery cheese that seems to melt in the mouth, it is reminiscent of softly fermented butter. It is the most popular cheese in Galicia to accompany the "Poteo", a tradition of going from bar to bar rinking young and fruity wines.
